The “Regina Pacis” School is a private Catholic school that is guided by the following vision: “To become a school of excellence in the region by providing education for the integral development of children and young people”. This vision is based on a Christian anthropological conviction: it is in Jesus Christ that the fullness of the truth about man is found. True God and true man, all human values find their full realization and harmonious unity in Him. Through his humanity, Jesus Christ is therefore the unrivaled reference for this achievement and the integration of human values, so that it is from him that the educational project of the “Regina Pacis” School is designed. “Regina Pacis” is a Catholic school which aims to be a place of integral education of the human person through a clear educational project which is based on this Christian anthropological vision. It is an education which promotes the child and the young person to the integral man by modeling him to Christ, the perfect Man. In this education the place of the Virgin Mary, Mother of the Word and Queen of Peace, is that of a true mother who educates and protects. Although Catholic, the “Regina Pacis” School is a school for all children, without any distinction, since “the concern for instruction is love” says the book of Wisdom (Cf. Sg 6 , 17). It is a school for all, with particular and privileged attention to the very young, the marginalized and the poor.
Mission
As a private sector, the founders and owners of the “Regina Pacis” School want to “contribute to national and regional development by providing Rwandan children with an adequate education based on human and spiritual values”. They are, in fact, aware of the extreme importance of education in human life and of its influence in the development of modern society.
Goals
In the long term, the “Regina Pacis” School seeks to achieve the objectives below:
1. Excel not only in intellectual education, but also in the formation of conscience, because “Science without conscience is only ruin of the soul”;
2. Promote the integral training of young Rwandans in all its forms;
3. Contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of Rwandan society;
4. Provide children and young people with the knowledge instruments that allow them to take their place in a society strongly marked by technical and scientific knowledge;
5. Do not reduce education to its purely cognitive or pedagogical aspects, nor to those purely technical and functional, but rather, in it, also take into account the material and spiritual needs of children and young people;
6. Educate children and young people through the integration of their physical, emotional, intellectual, moral and spiritual dimensions;
7. Build a community that educates in respect for human values and rights.
Brief history / Graduation
The “Regina Pacis” School was founded in 1986 under the name of the “French School” by the Association of Diocesan Priests of the Diocese of Ruhengeri called “Fratres In Unum”, FIU in acronyms, in collaboration with the French Embassy in Rwanda via the French Medical Mission which, at that time, worked at the Ruhengeri hospital. Its creation aimed to promote the intellectual training of the children of Ruhengeri, by making French the language of education from kindergarten and, through this, introducing them to French culture. Everything had started well, and the fruits of this work were beginning to bud, until the unfortunate events of the war and the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994 which saw the school stop all its activities. Aware of the importance of this good project, when calm returned, the priests of the Diocese of Ruhengeri gathered in their Association of Diocesan Priests of the Diocese of Ruhengeri, Fratres In Unum, FIU, in their General Assembly held on June 16, 2003 at the Janja Parish, decided to restart it in 2003. Its buildings were in a deplorable state: looted, ransacked and demolished. The rehabilitation of the existing premises was no longer in the new vision of the school, it was necessary to completely destroy them and build new classrooms.
Brief history / Awarding
In order to remove any ambiguity of understanding in the name of this school, the General Assembly of the Association of Diocesan Priests of the Diocese of Ruhengeri, Fratres In Unum (FIU), founder and head of the school, took the decision to change the name of this school in its meeting of 11/27/2006. The French School then became the “Regina Pacis” School, Latin terms which mean “Queen of Peace”, in reference to the Virgin Mary to whom the diocesan priests of the Diocese of Ruhengeri grouped together in their association “Fratres In Unum” entrusted their school and the children educated there, asking her to pray for their peace and for that of all of Rwanda after the war and the genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. The “Regina Pacis” School functions as a nursery, primary and secondary school. It is approved by the Rwandan Government and benefits from a code number granted to it by the Ministry of Education from the 2003-2004 school year.
